Gillingham Chamber of Commerce offer support, give advice and help finance many events within the town of Gillingham. They are pledged to give both financial and supportive help to the annual Christmas Festival Lighting parade.The arrival of Father Christmas and his subsequent help turning on the town lights draws a large celebratory crowd to the newly revamped Meadow where the large Christmas tree shines out over the town. Some years Father Christmas has landed outside the town and is drawn by his faithful reindeer through the crowds to the party. Small children are allowed to whisper their secret wishes as they stroke the gentle animals before they meet the man himself. With help from Santa’s reindeer (2014, 2015) the cast of Frozen (2015), various amateur dramatists and pantomime artists (2016), each year; a different theme brings out the creativity and celebration of the community.

People from outside the town join the throng with many businesses staying open late and stalls and evening music along the high street and Meadow are all co-ordinated to tie in with the once a year event.
