Industry thrives in our town

04 Oct Industry thrives in our town

Gillingham, Dorset provides the ideal conditions for industry to thrive and grow. Our location as the gateway to Dorset gives us unprecedented access to the rest of the country, far better than some other major towns within the county such as Dorchester or Bournemouth. We have an excellent rail service running straight to the heart of London (2 hours). and we are just over an hour from the M4 and M5 and minutes from the A303 giving access to a network of national links.
Sigma Aldrich, Dextra, Virginia Heyward are all major employers offering opportunity and work locally. Household names like Neals Yard, Waitrose, Iceland, Screwfix, Lidl, Pets at Home and Costa Coffee have all been welcomed into the town to rub shoulders with smaller independents such as Cullingford, Prime Cuts, Sydenhams and Fitness by Design who all keep the growing population in employment.

They say no press is bad press so despite disparaging newspaper reports, we have a nightclub; Legends which has not only managed to survive when so many other nightclubs have closed, have a thriving hub of youngsters working and enjoying the nightclub weekly. With a large School and 4 primary schools, 2 doctors surgeries and 2 dentists within the town boundaries there are opportunities for employment and keeping the huge number of young people who live and grow up within the growing town.
We are lucky to have many varied and diverse eating establishments appealing to every taste. Orchard Park’s ever popular café with the opportunity to browse through one of three garden centres, balances the Indian, Chinese and fish and chip takeaways. The chance to enjoy a celebration or just a quiet night out awaits visitors at South Street Kitchen, Massimos Italian at the Buffalo, the Wine Bar or the Dolphin Pub with copious drinking venues for pre-dinner drinks or to build friendships and acquaintances.
